We are a privately held, family-owned, distribution company headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana. We have been in business for over 35 years and have established ourselves as one of the principal distribution companies in Guyana. We provide over 2,000 products across a dozen unique categories. Our customers include Supermarket Chains and Convenience Shops, Hotels and Apartments, Entertainment and Tourism Companies, Restaurants and Fast Food Outlets, Hospitals and Pharmacies, Wholesale Partners and Government Agencies.

Our daily operations are coordinated from the company’s central office in Georgetown and involve the combined effort of over 50 team members. Our distribution network also includes five (5) regional warehouses that enable us to service over 30,000 sq. miles. With presence in six administrative regions, and over 150 customers across 118 communities, we are able to meet the demand of over 600,000 people.

Alpha Import Export Company was started by Bernard and Molly Rickford in 1984 in Georgetown, Guyana, then Alpha Trading Company. Mr. Bernard Rickford worked as an insurance broker and part-time salesman before establishing the company. He saw an opportunity to capitalize on the quality and price of coconuts being grown in Guyana and began exporting them to markets across Europe. Over the following year, the portfolio of exports increased, with a majority of exports being agricultural produce.

In 1986, after the Government’s import ban was lifted, Mr. Bernard Rickford began discussions with several companies in Europe to import and distribute staple food products on the local market. In 1987, Alpha Trading Company became Alpha Import Export Company and constructed a new warehouse in Georgetown to better serve consumers.

During the second quarter of 1990, Alpha Import Export Company began importing and distributing grocery products from the United States of America. These included products from some of today’s leading global companies, namely Kraft Heinz, Nestle, Procter and Gamble, Unilever and more. During the 90’s the company grew rapidly; employing a vibrant team of professionals, building new facilities and developing comprehensive polices and strategies.
